Aunt Ellie's Miniatures -- Furniture, Accessories & Dolls
A proud member of IGMA, the International Guild of Miniature Artisans, Ltd.
I've been fascinated with miniatures forever, although I didn't have a dollhouse as a child. My sister and I improvised cardboard settings for wooden furniture that we had, and I tried to make new pieces out of the only materials and tools we had -- paper, recycled boxes, pins, scissors, and school paste. When my daughters were 5 and 7, I made them a dollhouse that folded flat to fit under a bed. It had two stories, and I built this free-standing staircase for their Barbies. This wing chair was one of the few pieces of furniture I made at that time, but I kept the thought that I would return to creating miniatures some day.
"Some day" is finally here. My one-time art studio is now my workshop, where I work nearly every day. My husband Frank helps me by making tools, giving me as much encouragement as anyone could wish for, and brainstorming creative solutions for technical problems.
